Recently, Vern Henshaw was chosen by his peers as the Superintendent of the Year. Some Alpine School District patrons have expressed bewilderment at this selection, wondering what customer satisfaction survey they missed. Lucky for them the choice wasn't made by any uninformed parents that just have students attending school within the district. The selection was wisely made by the education professionals who are most knowledgeable in these matters. Of course, these professional know that no one individual has done more to champion public education reform within Utah than Supt. Henshaw. Let's review some key highlights:
- Fired the first shot in the latest math wars.
- Incubated the concepts of smaller school districts (which I hope will result in the split of the Jordan School District).
- Promoted the expansion of charter schools, particularly within the ASD boundaries.
- Increased homeschooling as families focused on learning their times tables and other math basics.
- Solidified support to expand educational vouchers through the Parent Choice in Education scholarships.
- Initiated debate regarding superintendent recall elections.
Here's to greater public education reform in the years to come!
