Back in Town

I'm digging out from being out of town (anyone interested in some mail?).  I spent a couple of days in Logan for the legislative tours and discussions on the Legacy Highway lawsuit settlement proposal.  Then I took the family to Oregon for my wife's family reunion for almost a week.  We spent some time around Portland and then along the Oregon Coast (Pacific City, Astoria, and Tillmook (the cheese capitol of Oregon)).

While in Portland, I took my 2 boys to the Oregon Museum of Science & Industry.  We spent almost a full day there and could have spent several more.  It is one of the top 10 science museums in the nation and dwarfs the Clark Planetarium.  We watched the National Geographic "Lewis & Clark: Great Journey West" movie in the OMNIMAX in preparation for our trip to Fort Clatsop.  We also toured the USS Blueback Submarine the last fast-attack, diesel-powered submarine built by the U.S. Navy.

I still think Portland has one of the most beautiful city skylines, with the West Hills surrounding the city and the Willamette River running right through the middle of the city.  (It ranks right up there with Salt Lake City's skyline.)

The weather at the coast was great. And not a drop of rain the whole trip (except for Logan).  Also, the Columbia River was running well with lots of windsurfing and kiteboarding.
